In designing our own office space, we sought to reflect as much about Inkmason as possible. Conveniently located in Tuanjiehu, our office is within proximity of the Sanlitun Retail District as well as the Chinese Business district. We challenged the definition of a traditional office by experimenting new ways to create functionality in the space. Our meeting room can be transformed into an art gallery and exhibition space; our material library combines with a fully functional kitchen-equipped with built-in fridge and oven; Lastly, our bookshelves can be covered with full length canvas to become a blank wall for art work display. All of these features were integrated in the design to create a lively workplace.
When considering color and materials, our designers chose to combine elements from traditional Chinese style and modern technology. Our design incorporated fengshui principles, dark timber, bright finishes and strategic lighting, create a balance of the spaces “Qi”. In addition, we utilized sustainable materials, using recycled wood and lamps from local suppliers. The ancient Chinese Character for “Mason”, or “匠 (Jiang)”, is the inspiration for the Inkmason logo. It also represents our core values, the character symbolizes a set of craftsman tools, that would be carried on his back inside a basket. Our tools are displayed throughout our office space, visitors and employees can see in display a collection of our craftsman’s tools, vintage machinery and clocks.
